CENTIPEDE GRASS - Centipede grass was introduced to the United States from Southeast Asia. Centipede is a slow-growing, low-maintenance, all-purpose -type grass. It has fair to good shade tolerance and fairly good drought tolerance. Maintenance of centipede grass is low compared to other grasses. Centipede grass can be established by seed, plugs, sprigs or sod. Planting centipede as sod will produce an instant lawn, and is less susceptible to stress! Centipede sod seems to be a crowd favorite!

BERMUDA GRASS - Bermuda is a warm-season grass. Its root system is extensive and deep. It is best adapted to the hot climates, as there are in Arkansas! It is a great grass for golf course fairways, sports complexes, and plain old home lawns! It has a great recovery ability and requires very little maintenance. It seems to do well in our environment!

ST. AUGUSTINE - St. Augustine cultivar, selected for its deep green color, has a great shade, disease and cold tolerance. St. Augustine grass is widely adapted to the warm, humid climate of Arkansas. An advantage of St. Augustine grass is that it has a relatively good shade tolerance. A disadvantage of St. Augustine grass, as well most other grasses, is that it does not remain green during drought conditions without supplemental irrigation. It also can have pest problems, and has poor wear tolerance. The major pest to St. Augustine grasses are the well-known chinch bug.

ZOYSIA - Zoysia grass exhibits a dark green color and wide-bladed leaf. It performs well in the hot, humid environment as is in the State of Arkansas. It performs well in the sandy, clay soil. It requires less maintenance than Bermuda, for example, and has a pretty good shade and cold tolerance.
